breaking new ground
As usual, the boys are mixing up the well-known old flavors and this time came up with some truly intriguing new brands of cheese. The no-holds-barred keyboards at the end of that king crimson cover are phenomenal. I always love it when Kyle shows his progrock side, and I don't believe I've ever heard him let it out this far. (Rick Wakeman and Keith Emerson were huge influences on me from my high school years on, and both would be impressed by this schizoid man cover.) Other highlights of this show include Jason's handiwork on Rhum n Zuc and the whole blown born on the wrong planet jam. I think Billy's valley of the jig riff at the beginning didn't throw off the band, but somehow they lost their usual thread after initiating the vocal segment. At least one member mistakenly went into the end of that as the refrain (which usually repeats that vocal segment after the verses and extensive jamming and brings BOTWP to a close.) What began as one of the larger gaffs I've heard them stumble through turns into some quite creative jamming as they were way off the beaten path, deciding to just blow off the rest of BOTWP, continuing to brainstorm together, plowing through unforeseen hinterlands, and eventually settling into the restless wind. Really unique stuff in there.

Proof Cheese can still bring it
A refreshing reminder that on good nights, this band can still deliver an engaging, focused performance. Little Hands is melodious and Lands End>Glory Chords is triumphant.
Extra props for the surprisingly faithful King Crimson cover and an excellent Kashmir.
Check out the "Paint it Black" theme that's jammed during the Desert Dawn reprise from 2:30 to 3:30.
Leaves me wondering what they could be doing if they were playing together full-time. As it is, cause for optimism among Cheese fans.

SCI hits the sweet spot
my personal favorite show of the 3 at EFF, mostly due to song selection. a real crispness to the playing on this night, you can tell the boys have settled into the fest and are really hitting the groove.
another excellent Pete Coffan recording, he knows how to capture that SCI sound as well as any out there. appreciate the continued commitment to taping Pete, thanks for bringing us these shows.

great show, problem with VBR ZIP download
Other than "Schitzoid Man" (not my favorite tune, and Kashmir and Lands End made up for it), this was a great show. Terrific energy. The relatively young crowd was balanced by the old locals who came out to see REO. Only 1 problem, when I try to unzip the VBR ZIP download, I get a CRC check failed for at least one of the mp3 files.

Correction in Progress
Thanks for calling out the need for correction to Glory Chords. It is in process.
I did catch Billy's Valley of the Jig tease during the opening of BOTWP. Sounded like everyone else was playing BOTWP. In the 'moment' it left me wondering what planet I was on, so that's what I called it ;)
